Moving in or out of a Dehradun society: RWA rules to check

Society shifting rules in Dehradun are set by each building, not by the city, so two societies on the same road can work quite differently. Some want an NOC and a lift booking, others only a call to the guard. This page lists what to ask at both ends, in the order it usually needs sorting, and how Agarwal Packers and Movers plans the crew around whatever your RWA decides.

Where rules apply

Which Dehradun homes come with move rules

Not every address needs paperwork. These are the kinds of places where we most often find a process to follow before the truck arrives.

  • Newer apartment societies

Gated towers along Sahastradhara Road, GMS Road, the Ring Road, Jogiwala, Haridwar Road, the Shimla Bypass and Mussoorie Diversion usually have a facility manager, a service lift and a written move policy. Expect the most steps here.

  • Independent colonies with an RWA

Many older colonies have a welfare association and a guard at the gate but no lift. The usual ask is a heads-up to the guard and a note of the vehicle, though some want a letter from the owner if you're a tenant.

  • Cantonment and campus housing

Garhi Cantt, Clement Town and institutional campuses control who enters. A goods vehicle and its crew generally need prior permission, arranged by the resident through the relevant office.

Society shifting checklist for Dehradun apartments

Go through this with the RWA office or facility manager of each building about a week before your date. Practice varies a lot, so treat each line as a question to ask, not a rule that definitely applies.

CheckWhat to askSort itDone
NOC or dues clearanceDo you need a no-dues letter or NOC from the society you're leaving? It's common practice in many societies, but not universal.A week ahead☐
Move hoursWhich hours are moves allowed, and is there a lunch break or a cut-off time? Before fixing the date☐
No-move daysSome societies avoid moves on Sundays or public holidays. Is yours one of them? Before fixing the date☐
Service liftHow is the lift booked, for how long, and does the society supply padding or expect the mover to?3–5 days ahead☐
Damage depositSome societies take a refundable deposit against damage to lifts or common areas. How much, and when is it returned? With the lift booking☐
Gate passWhat details do security need: vehicle number, crew count, mover's name, your flat number?1–2 days ahead☐
Truck entry and parkingCan a truck enter the gate and reach your tower, or must it stop outside? Where can it stand while loading?During the survey☐
Guard registerWill the crew sign in at the gate, and is ID needed for each person?1–2 days ahead☐
Tenant verificationIf you're renting, has police verification been done? This is between landlord and tenant; check what applies to you. Before moving in☐

This is a general checklist, not legal advice. Your society's own bye-laws and the cantonment or campus office have the final word.

Two buildings, two sets of rules

Move-out society and move-in society: what each one wants

People often sort out the new building and forget the old one, or the other way round. Both can hold up the day.

Move-out society
PaperworkClear maintenance and any utility dues, and collect a no-dues letter or NOC if the society issues one.
Owner's okayTenants may need the flat owner to tell the RWA you are leaving.
Lift and hoursBook the service lift for loading, which takes longer than unloading.
Exit checkSome guards check goods against the gate pass as the truck leaves.
Deposit backAsk how a lift or damage deposit is refunded once the move is done.
Move-in society
RegistrationMany societies want resident details, and tenants may be asked for a copy of the rent agreement.
Move-in permissionConfirm the date and hours in writing, a WhatsApp message from the office is usually enough.
Lift and hoursBook the lift for unloading, and check it's free of other moves or deliveries that day.
Gate passPass on the vehicle and crew details we share with you.
ParkingAsk where the truck can stand, ideally close to your tower's service entrance.
What we do

How we work with your RWA on moving day

You deal with the society; we fit the move around what it says. That split keeps things simple for everyone.

  1. Ask at the survey

During the free survey we ask about hours, lift size, truck access and parking at both buildings, so the quote reflects them.

  2. Share pass details

A day or two before, we share the vehicle and crew details your guard desk asks for.

  3. Work the permitted hours

The crew is scheduled to arrive when moves are allowed, with packing planned so loading fits the lift slot.

  4. Protect the lift

Where the society asks, we can pad the lift and protect lobby floors.

Plan the rest

Apartment shifting in Dehradun, start to finish

Society rules are one part of a flat move. Packing order, the price and where we cover all come into it too. If you're comparing packers and movers in Dehradun, ask each one how they handle lift slots and gate passes; it tells you a lot about how the day will go.

FAQ

Society and RWA shifting questions

Do I need an NOC to shift out of a society in Dehradun?

Many societies ask for maintenance dues to be cleared and issue a no-dues letter or NOC before you leave, but it isn't the same everywhere. Ask your RWA office or facility manager about a week before your date.

Can a moving truck enter my apartment society?

Usually, if the gate and internal roads are wide enough and security has the vehicle details. Some societies make larger trucks stop outside, in which case goods are carried or shuttled in. We check this during the survey.

What are the usual shifting timings in Dehradun societies?

There's no single rule. Many societies allow moves during daytime hours only and some avoid Sundays and holidays. Get the exact hours from both buildings before fixing your date, and we'll schedule the crew to match.

Who books the service lift, me or the movers?

The resident normally books it, since the society deals with its own residents. Tell us the slot you get and we plan packing so loading fits inside it. Where the society asks, we can pad the lift too.

Will the society ask for a deposit when I shift?

Some do, usually a refundable amount against damage to lifts or common areas. Ask how much it is and how it is returned, and keep the receipt.

What if the society refuses entry on moving day?

Call the RWA office or facility manager first; it is often a missing gate pass or a timing mix-up that can be fixed on the spot. If the move can't go ahead, we'll talk through rescheduling with you. Getting permission in writing beforehand avoids most of these problems.
