The best time to move house in Dehradun
Weather, school terms, festival dates and tourist traffic all change how smooth a move in Dehradun is, and sometimes what it costs. Even inside a good month, a few choices make the day calmer and can keep the price at the lower end of the range.
1Mid-month over month-end
Most leases in Dehradun end with the month, so the last few days and the first of the month are the most requested. A date around the 10th to the 20th is easier to get.
2A weekday over Sunday
Sundays suit people who can't take leave, which is exactly why they fill first. A weekday also means building offices and RWAs are open if a gate pass or NOC is needed.
3An early start
Starting early beats the afternoon heat in summer and the heavier traffic on Rajpur Road, Haridwar Road and around the ISBT later in the day.
4Check your society's hours
Many apartment societies allow moves only in fixed hours and ask you to book the service lift. That can decide the start time more than traffic does.
5Auspicious dates
If you're moving on a chosen muhurat, tell us as soon as you know it. Those dates cluster, especially around Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali.
6Keep a backup day
For hill towns and monsoon months, agree a second date in advance. It costs nothing to plan and saves a rushed move if the weather turns.
Moving in the rain without soaking your sofa
Plenty of people have to move between July and September: a posting comes through, a lease ends, a new flat is ready. It's very doable with a bit more preparation from both sides.

Which month is best for house shifting in Dehradun?
October to March is usually the easiest stretch, with dry roads and mild weather. February, March and November are especially comfortable. October is ideal too, but festival dates get booked early.
Is it safe to shift during the monsoon in Dehradun?
Yes, with extra waterproofing and some flexibility on timing. City moves go ahead normally. Hill moves to Mussoorie or Chakrata need a backup date in case of landslides or road closures.
Is it cheaper to move in the middle of the month?
Mid-month weekdays are easier to schedule than month-end weekends. The price itself depends on the survey: volume, floors and access matter more than the date.
How far ahead should I book for October or November?
If you're moving on a festival or muhurat date, book as soon as you know the date. For other days in those months, about a week ahead is usually enough.
